What is a CPO?

And other Questions from First-Time Tech Founders

What does a Chief Product Officer actually do? And why do I need one if I already have developers?

Here's a scene we see all the time: A founder hires developers, writes them a check, and waits. Six months later, they have half a product, a stack of invoices, and no idea what went wrong.

That's what happens when you have execution without strategy.

A Chief Product Officer is the bridge between your vision and your developers. We don't write code—we architect the plan so the code gets written right. We:

- Translate your expertise into features users actually need
- Break the work into phases so you ship fast, not perfect
- Keep developers focused so they don't wander into "cool" but unnecessary features
- Give you a visual roadmap so you're never guessing what comes next

If you have developers but nothing's shipping, you don't need more developers. You need a CPO to lead the ones you have.

My last project took 8 months and went nowhere. How can you build anything useful in 90 days?

Because we don't build everything. We build what matters.

Most development drags on because there's no one saying "stop." No one asking: "Does this feature actually help us validate the business?" No one pushing back when developers want to rebuild something that already works.

We've seen founders burn $80k, $120k, $200k on agencies that just kept building. They weren't bad developers. They just had no product leadership.

In 90 days, we:

- Identify the core problem your users actually have (not what you *think* they have)
- Build the smallest version that solves it
- Put it in front of real people
- Learn what's next

That's not rushing. That's focus.

I don't speak tech, and they build the wrong thing. Can you fix this?

Yes. This is exactly why founders hire us.

You shouldn't have to learn to code. You should focus on your customers, your market, your expertise. We become the translator.

When developers talk about "tech debt" and "refactoring," we translate that into business decisions. When you have an idea, we turn it into specs they can actually build from.

Think of us as your buffer and your bridge. You stay in your zone. We stay in ours. And your developers finally have someone who can answer their questions without you needing a computer science degree.

By the end of 90 days, you'll understand your product better, not because we taught you code, but because we taught you the *questions* to ask.

I want to launch the full vision, not a stripped-down version. Won't users be disappointed?

This is the fear that kills more startups than anything else. And we understand it—you've built a reputation on delivering excellence. Why would your product be different?

Here's what we've learned from watching dozens of experts launch: Users don't compare your MVP to your vision. They compare it to their problem.

If your stripped-down version solves one real problem really well, users will love you. They'll tell you what to build next. They'll become your advocates.

If you wait 18 months to build the "complete" version, two things happen:

1. You might build features nobody actually wants
2. Someone else might launch the simple version and own the market

We're not saying launch something broken. We're saying launch something focused. Something that works. Something you can be proud of because it helps people today, not someday.

You've built 5 startups. How do you actually help with go-to-market? What can I track?

Having built five startups, I've learned one thing the hard way: marketing can't be an afterthought. If you wait until the product is built to figure out how to sell it, you've already lost momentum.

Here's how I think about it differently.

We start exploring your go-to-market on day one, not to write ad copy, but to understand:

- What is the one core message that makes your ideal customer lean in?
- What are the natural extensions of that message (your sub-offerings)?
- How are competitors positioning themselves, and where's the gap you can own?
- What pricing models actually make sense for your audience?

These conversations shape the product itself. When we know who we're building for and what they care about, we make better decisions about what features matter, what language to use in the UI, and how to design the first user experience.

By the time we launch, marketing isn't something you bolt on. It's baked in.

As for tracking, we focus on signals, not vanity metrics. Early user feedback. Retention patterns. Whether people are showing up again. Whether they're telling others. Those tell us more than download numbers ever could.

No guarantees. Just a process I've refined over five startups.

Still wondering if this is right for you?
